Dear WCCCG,
From: David Shanks, Candidate for Washington County Commission
Your
letter stated, "We believe the best voter in an informed voter."
Thomas Jefferson totally agreed with your position when he said, "I
know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people
themselves..."
I am a first time political candidate for commissioner in district 9 Telford, Conklin, South Central & Embreeville.
I am a life-long resident of Washington County and graduated from Sulphur Springs Highs School and ETSU. My wife, Pamila Deakins, was a former teacher and we have two children John-David and Rachel and both graduated from Davy Crockett and ETSU and both teach in the Greene County School System. Our family is active at Lighthouse Baptist Church.
I am a young retiree and spent my professional career in teaching, private industry, city government and construction with 25 years with the Alliance for Business and Training before retirement. Farming has now become an almost full time job.
The last 9 years of my professional career, I served as Executive Director with the Alliance for Business and Training. We worked closely with the local school systems, area technology centers, Northeast State, and ETSU. We were heavily involved in Economic Development and recruitment of new business and industry and statistically ranked among the top employment and training performers in the nation.
I am for...
1. Tight-fisted budget control
2. Open and transparent government
2. Support for the will of the people
We need government with...
1. Christian principles
2. Conservative viewpoints
3. Common-sense approaches
These are my values and these can provide long term success for our county.
